Healthy Snacks for the Working Woman

Let’s face it, if you’re in a hurry and you’re hungry, you are more likely to stop at a fast food chain and order something. It’s cheap, it’s convenient and simple. However, it’s so bad for your health. Let’s eliminate that possibility by keeping snacks readily available in your handbag, or if you have a fridge at work you can label the snack with your name and set it aside when you’re stomach starts to growl around 3 pm.


Apple Rings: These are one of my favorite snacks. You can either make them at home or buy them in Trader Joe’s or many health food stores. Here’s a great recipe.


Health Warrior Chia Bars: 110 calories a bar and loaded with fiber, omega-3, protein, antioxidants, magnesium and calcium, these bars make a delicious and nutritious addition to your day. Find them in health food stores or on Amazon. I love these because anything coconut is delicious to me!


Terra Vegetable Chips: If you are craving something salty, these vegetable chips will satisfy you. Although not as healthy as the previous snacks, they are 150 calories for the bag. You can find these in any grocery store. At Kroger they’re in the aisle with the organic foods. If not, find them on Amazon.

SunmaidVanilla Yogurt Covered Raisins: These tasty little treats are 130 calories per serving and are great to stash in your purse. They’re about $2.70 for a pack of six.


Yoplait Light: This yogurt is amazing because there are so many flavors you can choose from and it’s a great way to satisfy your sweet tooth for only 90 calories. My favorite flavor is Key Lime Pie or Orange Dream. It’s a great daily snack that fills you up! Found at any grocery store.


Turkey Jerky: There are many companies that make this lean, high in protein snack that’s perfect to stash in your purse or in your drawer at work, but my favorite is by Field Trip. 80 calories per serving and two servings in a bag, and tasty to boot! These are gluten free and their products have simple ingredients and no chemicals. Go to their website to buy some or find them in a grocery store.


Trader Joe’s Apple Fruit Bars: I’ve saved the best for last, because these are my favorite snack. My favorite kind is the apple and coconut, a tasty combination of dried apple and coconut, which is a harmony of fruity goodness. These are composed of only 2 ingredients in each, the two fruits combined in bar form. You can find these 90 calorie healthy treats in Trader Joe’s, since they are TJ brand. My mouth is just watering thinking about them, beware; they’re addicting! Learn more about them here.
